An inmate in a rehabilitation centre for Sri Lankans in Tamil Nadu had self-immolated after hearing the death of his father who was in Jaffna.

The 47 year old man who has been identified as Sathyaseelan Kamalraj has been living in the Thekkattur rehabilitation centre for Sri Lankans in Tamil Nadu for the past several years.   

Unlike many inmates in the centre, he had been there without any relatives with him. Authorities had said that he had been frustrated for being separated from the family and the sudden information on his father’s death has prompted him to take his life. the other inmates of the camp had doused the fire and he had been admitted to the Puthukkottai Hospital but to no avail.
