Lankans stranded in Sudan: Sri Lanka seeks Indian help for evacuation

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has sought help from India to evacuate 20-30 Sri Lankans stranded in Sudan, which is now engulfed in fighting between the forces of two Military Generals, the Daily Mirror learns. 

The fighting broke out in Sudan on April 15 killing hundreds of people and leading to a humanitarian catastrophe.  


Countries have started the evacuation of their nationals stuck in the crisis-ridden country.  


An informed source said that Indian assistance was sought to airlift Sri Lankans to a safer location.  The source said the Sri Lankan Mission in Egypt is coordinating the process. Besides, Sri Lanka has alerted Saudi Arabia for help if the need arises.
