A large number of dogs had been poisoned to death by an individual in Pattiwela area in Gallewela much to the anxiety of the residents of the area on full moon Poya day (09).

Galewela police had initiated investigation of complaints in this regard received from the residents of the area. 

They pointed out several pregnant female dogs  and those feeding pups were among those killed.  Residents of the area accused the owner of a poultry farm, but he denied the allegation.
