A leading businessman who owns several supermarkets was arrested last morning by Meegoda Police on suspicion of stealing lubricant oil from a vehicle service station at Godagama Junction in Homagama.

The proprietor of the service station had produced video recordings of the incident during investigations.
Police arrested the suspect and seized a luxury vehicle used by him to transport the stolen oil.
Police said an employee of the service station suspected of aiding and abetting the theft was to be arrested.

Another employee had recorded the scenes of loading cans of lubricant oil into the suspect’s vehicle and showed them to the owner who produced them in proof of his complaint.
Investigations revealed that the racket had been going on for long.    The suspect was to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate yesterday.
OIC Meegoda Police CI Neville Priyantha is conducting further investigations.
