The price of a 12 kg domestic gas cylinder was increased to Rs. 4,610 effective from midnight yesterday , Litro Chairman Muditha Pieris said.
“The new retail price of the 5 kg gas cylinder will be Rs.1,850, and the price of the 2.3 kg gas cylinder will be Rs. 860,” he said.
He stated that the decision was made due to the high demand for gas during the winter season, the impact of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and the increase in international gas prices this month.
He explained that an increase in the demand for gas during the winter season is a normal situation in the West.
As a result, the price of refilling a 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder will rise by Rs 250. Accordingly, the price of a gas cylinder has increased by Rs. 4,610.
The 5 kg gas cylinder will be increased by Rs. 100, and the 2.3 kg cylinder will be increased by Rs.45 from tonight.
Meanwhile, an official said that the company had incurred Rs.20 billion last year and 70 per cent of the people in the country currently have converted to use firewood and other alternative energy sources.
He also cited rupees depreciation against the USD as a reason.
