Claiming that the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) had issued new standards on gas composition yesterday, Litro Gas Lanka Limited Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe said that in accordance with new SLSI standards, the new gas cylinders would be supplied to the market with a printed sticker denoting the propane composition instead of the red sticker.

He told the online press conference held at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC) that according to new SLSI standards, maximum propane composition should be 30 per cent and that it should be printed on the body of the gas cylinder in place of the red sticker used on the cap of the gas cylinder earlier.

He said there would be a slight delay in supplying new gas cylinders to the market, as printing of the new sticker would take a few days.

Jayasinghe said however, they would ensure a secure gas supply during the upcoming festive season and added that people should not be scared of Litro gas cylinders as they were up to the SLSI standards.
He said people should not be concerned about gas cylinders with red stickers or new printed stickers as all gas stocks were approved by the SLSI.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Technology Jayantha De Silva said two out of the three gas vessels that had arrived in Sri Lanka had been approved to unload gas stocks as they were up to the standard and that the other vessel had not met the standards pertaining to the Mercaptan.
