Looking into possibility of conducting O/L at Grade 10: Minister



  • Says foundation should be laid for the next generation to choose their future direction after A/L

The Education Ministry is looking into the possibility of conducting the GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) examination at Grade 10, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
While addressing an event at the Royal College, Colombo he said previously, the students faced the O/L Examination in Grade 10, but later it was extended by one year to Grade 11.
The Ministry is currently having discussions on holding the examination in Grade 10, the Minister said.

“This work cannot be done at once. It is expected to be done under three categories from primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels while covering Grades 1 to 6 and 10,” he said


Necessary updates have been made to the society where knowledge is increasing rapidly in a very short period of time, he said.


Through a new transformational change in education, the foundation should be laid for the next generation to inherit the independence of choosing their future direction after appearing for the A-level examination, the Minister further said.
