Low-pressure over Bay of Bengal expected to enhance: Met. Dept.

A low-pressure area is currently located in the sea area off the eastern coast of the island and is expected to enhance further, bringing 100 mm of rain in many parts of the nation within the coming days, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.


The low-pressure area began developing over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Naval and fishing communities were advised not to venture into the seas extending from Puttalam, Kankesanthurai up to Trincomalee as the seas are expected to be rough with wind speed expected to be as high as 65 kmph.

Meanwhile, flash floods were reported in Walapane in the Nuwara Eliya District while one person was killed in Mullaitivu as a result of lightning according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
