MP Mahinda Samarasinghe yesterday announced that he is going to resign from Parliament in a few days’ time and proceed to the USA to accept the post of Sri Lankan Ambassador in that country.

“I will assume duties as the Sri Lankan Ambassador in US in a few day’s time. I shall be going to US at a crucial time. It will be a crucial time as USA will become a member of UN Human Rights Council in January next year. Therefore, it would be important for Sri Lanka to develop close ties with USA,” he said.

“However I shall come back to politics and continue my 32-year career as a politician. I was a member of Parliament for 27 years and a member of provincial council for six years. I shall not abandon my voters in Kalutara District,” he added.
