MPs of several parties meet PM

A group of SJB MPs along with some colleagues from the ruling party which included Dr. Harsha De Silva had met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday to discuss the economic situation of the country, the Prime Minister’s office said yesterday.  The Members of Parliament who attended Parliament included Former Finance Minister Ali Sabry, COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath and COPF Chairman Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. The Opposition MPs who attended were Dr. Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, Kumara Welgama, Rauff Hakeem and Rishad Bathiudeen according to Prime Minister’s office. Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardena, led the presentation with a breakdown of the current economic crisis and the short-term and medium-term goals of the Government. Following the presentation, a discussion was held with the MPs on possible methods that could be used to mitigate the economic disaster.

The Prime Minister explained that a draft roadmap would be presented to Parliament which would allow the Members of Parliament to present their ideas before finalising it. 


Meanwhile, Dr. de Silva in his Twitter message said he along with MP Wickramaratne met the Prime Minister and expressed his willingness to work for the betterment of the nation.  “On the invitation of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, I along with MP Eran Wickramaratne attended a meeting at his office. Secretary Ministry of Finance presented the dire economic situation. PM wanted our support to get a number of fiscal amendments through Parliament. I have always been ready to work for Sri Lankans. Yes, I will help,” Dr. De Silva said in his Twitter.
