MPs’ official residences at Madiwela will not be spared during power cuts as per the information which Parliament has received from Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said yesterday.
Fernando told Daily Mirror that this was the situation according to the information Parliament had received from CEB.
“Electricity will be disrupted for the MPs quarters immediately as per the information which we have received,” he said.
Referring to the reports which said the Members Canteen in the House is going to be opened for families of MPs, he said it has been decided that Parliament premises will be opened for families of MPs.
“ There are 80 new MPs elected to the present Parliament. They were elected during the pandemic. Therefore the family members of these MPs never got a chance of visiting the Parliament complex.
Therefore the party leaders decided to allow the family members of these MPs to visit the parliamentary complex. It is not clear whether the members canteen is open for them,” he said.
