• The suspect was on bail for the rape of his wife’s daughter of her first marriage

An individual who sold his sister in law’s 12 day old infant for Rs.10,000 was  produced before the Monaragala District Judge and Magistrate Sajini Amarawickrema by Monaragala police and remanded till September 13. He was a resident of Monarakelewatta area in Monaragala.

Investigations revealed that the sister in law had been in love with the suspect and had given birth to a child by him. Police told court that the suspect was on bail for the rape of his wife’s daughter of her first marriage.
The infant sold to a woman of the area was handed over to a detention centre in Keppelipola on a court order.
Monaragala police are conducting further investigations.
