Man arrested with mobile phones valued at 7.5 MN

A consignment of 650 mobile phones smuggled into the country by sea was seized in transit and a suspect arrested by Norochcholai police at the Karamba Navy- Police check point in the early hours of last morning.
The suspect from Kekirawa was transporting the stock of cellular phones by double cab.   

Police had checked the vehicle and searched it to find the stock of contraband goods packed in five boxes.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had smuggled the consignment of phones from India by sea.   
A senior police official said steps  would be taken to obtain a report from the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on the stock of cellular phones.   

The suspect was to be produced before the Puttalam magistrate yesterday.
