Man killed in Qatar shooting not a Sri Lankan: SLBFE

The man who was shot dead in Doha, Qatar last week was not a Sri Lankan worker, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said yesterday.  

An official of the SLBFE said that the Qatari Police had confirmed that the deceased was not a Sri Lankan. 
The Doha News reported last week that a Sri Lankan security guard was fatally shot Wednesday evening. 
Spokesman of the SLBFE Mangala Randeniya said that State Minister of Foreign Employment Piyankara Jayaratne had instructed the Labour Division of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar to look into the matter following the media reports. 


Accordingly, Chief of the Labour Division of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar Keerthi Muthukumarana has visited the Police Station in the area to verify the information, the Spokesman said. 


He said the Qatari Police have confirmed that the deceased was not a Sri Lankan. 
“The Embassy official has also inspected the mortuary of the hospital in the area to check if there was a body belonging to a Sri Lankan.” 
“However, there was no such body of a Sri Lankan,” Mr Randeniya said.
