Massive earth slip on Beragala - Wellawaya main road

• Drivers advised to use Bandarawela- Ella-Wellawaya Road
• Halatuthenna- Wellawaya Road through Kirawanagama and Nikapotha could also be used

The Beragala- Wellawaya A4 highway has been obstructed by a massive earth slip at Blackwood area last morning. A vast stretch of the road was covered with mounds of earth, rocks and trees that came down due to the torrential rain experienced in that area at present.   

Police said several vehicles on the road had a narrow escape from the earth slip that occurred at about 8.00.  

They advised the drivers to use Bandarawela- Ellla-Wellawaya road and warned them to be cautious of similar obstructions on that road as well. Police have said that the rural road of  via Halatuthenna-Wellawaya  through Kirawanagama and Nikapotha could also be used.

The Road Development Authority and the Police were taking steps to clear the obstructions to traffic.
