President Gotabaya Rajapaksa hinted that he would run for a second term when he addressed a meeting with the owners of media institutions. 

According to a tweet by president’s spokesman Kingsly Ratnayake, the President said he had five more years after the remaining three years of his current term to implement his policies. 


The president briefed the media owners about the progress of the vaccine rollout. He is reported to have sought fair coverage in the media on the introduction of organic agriculture and its environmental benefits in the long run. Besides, he emphasised the need for allocation of more space to promote online education for the benefit of school children during the pandemic.
