• Fairly heavy rains were experienced in hydro catchment areas

Showers exceeding 75 mm are expected in central hills, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Western and Galle and Matara Districts in the coming days, the Department of Metrology said yesterday.  

Strong winds and heavy showers were forecast in the sea areas around the island. 

Some areas in the island received showers exceeding 100 mm yesterday. Kalugala in Nuwara Eliya received 127 mm, Watawala 148 mm and Maldiniya 81 mm. Rambukkana in Ratnapura District received a rainfall of 94 mm. Fairly heavy rains were experienced in hydro catchment areas, with Kotmale receiving a fall of 77 mm and Norwood 69 mm.
