In the wake of the government scrapping the maximum retail price of rice, leading mill owners said yesterday they would release stocks to be sold at Rs.115 a kilo of Nadu, Samba at Rs.140  and Rs.165 for a kilo of Keeri Samba in the retail market.  

Making his remarks on the government’s move, leading rice miller Dudly Sirisena told Daily Mirror that there would be uninterrupted supply of rice to the market. He said sufficient stocks of rice were available in the country.  
“We will provide high quality rice to consumers at the prices mentioned above,” he said.  

Asked about the huge price difference of Samba and Nadu varieties, he said that previously, the government had introduced a maximum retail price of Rs. 98 for Nadu rice, Rs.103 for Samba rice and Rs.125 for Keeri Samba.
