A request made by former police officer ASP Kulasiri Udugampola that he be acquitted and released from the Millennium City safe-house case, without calling defence evidence, was yesterday rejected by Colombo High Court.

Accordingly, High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige decided to proceed with the case filed against ASP Kulasiri Udugampola, who is accused of revealing confidential information regarding Army intelligence personnel at a safe-house in Millennium City in Athurugiriya in 2002. Further trial was fixed for February 21.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against the accused for raiding a safe-house used by Army intelligence personnel at Athurugiriya Millennium City housing scheme on January 02, 2002 and publicised information regarding Army officials and their undercover operations.

The prosecution further alleged that information had been gathered in Colombo, Athurugiriya, Kandy and Katugastota to endanger the country’s national security.
