Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva discussed the possibility of obtaining aviation fuel from the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Iranian Ambassador Hashem Ashjazadeh on Friday.

The duo also explored the possibility of initiating direct flights between Iran’s Capital Tehran and Colombo while encouraging more Iranian travellers to the island.

Minister de Silva said that this would not only help ease the foreign exchange issue currently faced by Sri Lanka, but also would boost bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.  Appraising high on Ceylon Tea, the Ambassador said that Iran currently purchases a large amount of tea produce from Sri Lanka.
