Chief Government Whip and Minister of Urban Development Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday hinted at a cabinet reshuffle and said President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene will discuss and implement it.  “ A cabinet reshuffle is needed and the President and the Prime Minister will discuss and decide on it,” Minister Ranatunga said while speaking to the media after a programme held to commemorate his father late Minister Reggie Ranatunga over the weekend.

“There are MPs who could work, they should be given an opportunity to perform. We have also proposed forming a national government bringing all parties together. The process for the same should begin,” he said.

Also the Minister denied rumours which said there is a division within Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). “We are working closely together. The story which said Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa is going to be made Prime Minister is also false. These false stories are being spread by the opposition,” the Minister said.

When asked about the Counter Terrorism Act , the Minister said there is room for its amendments. It is possible to discuss amendments about the Bill in Parliament. The word terrorism does not refer to LTTE alone. If anyone tries to topple the government forcefully, that has to be considered as terrorism,” he added.
