Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekera has instructed the IGP to conduct an immediate investigation into the failure by the CID officers to follow the directive not to question journalists and newspaper editors.

The Minister also instructed the IGP to hand over the ongoing investigations on the garlic scam to the CID from the Peliyagoda Special Crime Investigation Unit.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had instructed relevant officials to refrain from summoning journalists who disclosed information regarding the garlic scam to the  CID.  Cabinet Spokesman Dullas Alahapperuma said earlier that Minister Sarath Weerasekara had also given a assurance that journalists will not be summoned to the CID nor will the CID visit media institutions to inquire about the incident.

However, a group of CID officers had visited the Lankadeepa editorial office on Wednesday to record statements from journalists and the editor over the incident.
