Moneragala SSP arrested with Ganja plants at his residence: CID takes over investigation

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation on Moneragala Police SSP Sisira Kumara who was arrested by the Special Task Force of Police (STF) with over 600 of Ganja plants at his official residence.    

The STF carried out a raid on the SSP’s official residence in Moneragala following a tip off received by the Uva Province Senior DIG.   


Accordingly, the SSP, his police constable driver, another constable and three other civilians were arrested with dry cannabis.   


The STF also recovered a metal scanner and a jeep during the raid. 

 
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation into the incident.   


A special CID team has been sent to the Moneragala area for further investigation, he added.   
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said disciplinary action will also be taken against the police officers.
