Media Spokesman for the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said more than 500 government doctors had left the country over the last eight months.  

He told the media that they had left the country without informing the Ministry of Health. He said several of them had already been issued with vacation of post notice. 

He pointed out that this would have a serious impact on the country’s health sector. 

Dr. Wijesinghe who expressed concern about this situation said the worst affected by the dearth of doctors in the state health sector would be the ordinary people in the country.
