• The elderly woman had died on the spot and her daughter last morning at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital

 A young woman and her mother died on Wednesday night (03) in an accident at Kurundugha Hethekma on the Southern Expressway.   

 The deceased Samarasinghe Kodituwakku Arachchige Umeshika Madhumi (30) was Ambalanthota branch manager of Bank of Ceylon and her mother Edirimuni Rita Harriet De Soyza (59). The elderly woman had died on the spot and her daughter last morning at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. One of their relatives and the driver had received injuries and admitted to hospital.

 However, a little boy and another woman had escaped unhurt.   

 Investigations revealed that they were on their way back from Galle after obtaining medical treatment for the bank official’s mother when the van collided at the rear of a lorry running in the same direction.
