There is a sinister move by the JVP to launch another insurrection similar to one they launched in 1988/89, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando claimed yesterday.
Minister Fernando told Parliament that the man with a helmet who got onto Jathika Jana Balawegaya MP Anura Dissanayake’s vehicle while he was returning from Parliament on Tuesday is a member of this armed group that is planning the insurrection.
“We also saw Mr. Dissanayake telling the protesters near the parliamentary complex to attack the government MPs on Tuesday evening. All these incidents point out that there is a sinister move to create a bloodbath similar to one that of 1989,” the Minister said.
“No one can deny these incidents as the clips clearly show everything,” he added.
Also, he said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will not resign as there is no need for it. “The President still has the mandate given to him by the people of this country,” he said,
Mr. Dissanayake who responded denied the allegation and said it was the government that was behind the sinister move to create a bloodbath. “ Head of Avant-Garde Nissanka Senadipathi who had attended a recent meeting of the service commanders had informed them that he had got a squad of 200 persons to protest in front of President Rajapaksa’s residence in Mirihana. “ How can Senadipathi attend a meeting of service commanders?” he questioned.
He admitted that a man with a helmet got into his vehicle while returning from Parliament and said he is one of the few men who were put in charge by his party to ensure his security. “We are not prepared to sacrifice our lives cheaply,” he said,
Minister Fernando also said none of the government MPs are prepared to die cheaply.
