• The alliance aims to be prepared for any upcoming elections

Another political somersault was witnessed yesterday when SLPP MP Nalaka Godahewa who defected to the opposition, appeared at a press conference together with SJB MP S. M. Marikkar.  

He walked into the press conference at the opposition leader’s office together with MP Marikkar. This was the second somersault witnessed by the country as three MPs namely Professor G. L. Peiris, Shan Wijayalal and Dilan Perera appeared at the SJB press conference on Monday.  

 “We have decided to work with the SJB and form an alliance to face any election that may be held in the future,” he said.  

“We don’t know what election will be held first. President Ranil Wickremesinghe may dissolve Parliament early. He might also do it as a blow to opposing MPs. We have to form a new strong alliance and prepare to face any election,” he said.  

“Some of us have made an early decision, but there are others who might make a late decision and join a broad alliance,” he added.
