Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa pledged to create a technological revolution for the benefit of the youth in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Rajapaksa who was speaking during a rally in Maharagama pledged to build a quality public service based on technology. A quality public service could be produced only through bringing in technology into the public service,” he said in this regard.

“We will also create employment opportunities for the youth. Accordingly, we shall create two million jobs within ten years. It will be possible to bring the unemployment rate in Sri Lanka down to zero through this programme,” he said.

“The government should assist the entrepreneurs to create employment. They cannot succeed in this endeavour when the governments which rule the nation change tax policies from time to time. This practice should be stopped,” he added.

Mr. Rajapaksa stressed the need for a sound education sector where the children would have an opportunity to engage in higher studies or to go for vocational training. “We will create a tomorrow for the children under our regime,” he said in this regard.

He said a government led by him will also make a proper focus on safeguarding the country’s culture.
“Some politicians come up with various pledges during elections. One party pledges to increase the salaries of public servants by Rs 25,000 while another party pledges to increase salaries by Rs. 50,000. However, the very same people who made these pledges said it was not possible to increase salaries some six months back. It is essential to move away from this political practice,” he said.
