A young woman who hired a trishaw at Ankumbura under the pretext of travelling to Matale and back to her home had on the way dealt a severe blow to the driver’s head with hammer and robbed him of his gold chain.  

During investigations the Alawatugoda police, with the help of the residents of the area, arrested the suspect woman who was fleeing from the scene. 

Interrogations revealed that 23 year old young woman had once been the winner of the National Heavy Weight Championship.   

She told police that she assaulted the driver and fled when he attempted to sexually abuse her. However, the police recovered the gold chain buried by her by the roadside.   
Police said the trishaw driver was admitted to hospital in critical condition.  

Alawatugoda police are conducting further investigations.
