Six suspects have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy along  with 125 kgs of heroin onboard a local multi-day fishing trawler in the  high seas south of Sri Lanka.

The navy said the suspects and the stock of heroin were  seized in a coordinated intelligence operation conducted by the State  Intelligence Service and Sri Lanka Navy by SLNS Vijayabahu.

The drug-carrying vessel and suspects were brought to the  port of Colombo yesterday and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha  Perera inspected the seized heroin.  The Commander said they were able to carry out the operation very safely without letting anyone escape.

“Mostly these drugs are transported through Iran and Palestine and we will continue similar operations further,” he said.
