Nearly 100 train services hampered due to strike

By Sheain Fernandopulle

Despite the Railways Department’s announcement of a service restoration by last afternoon, nearly 100 train services were disrupted yesterday (07) leaving commuters in disarray.

The strike, initiated at Thursday midnight by the Sri Lanka Railways Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union, is a response to grievances over the promotion of locomotive drivers and delays in recruitment processes.
The disruption has had a significant impact, especially for commuters returning home in the afternoon, including many office workers.

While trains arrived in Colombo from all railway lines last morning, many services were halted in the afternoon, leaving passengers stranded and facing considerable inconvenience.
