No preliminary report had been received regarding the attack on the Meenagaya Intercity Express Train (6079) at the Kekirawa Railway Station on January 14, Railways General Manager (GMR) Dhammika Jayasundara said.

He said the train was approaching the Kekirawa railway station when some unruly elements started hurling stones at the train in the middle of the trade union strike launched by the Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union (SLSMU) on January 14.

Several windows on the train, including the windscreen, were shattered during the attack. The train was on its way to Batticaloa from Colombo Fort. The train had left Fort at 7.15 pm on January 12, 2022.
“I have requested for the preliminary report on the attack but still have not received it,” he said.
