There will be no increase in the intercity and long distance special train fares, from last night Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama said.   

He said the railway department had announced a sudden fare hike without prior approval from the ministry.   

A discussion on train ticket fare increase was to be held this evening, and the fare revision will be announced by Monday or Tuesday, the Minister said.
