Responding to reports of a sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Northern Province, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige yesterday said that there is no such situation in the area.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said the situation did not look dreadful at all, despite several cases being reported from the area in the recent past.

“It is absolutely normal to witness one or two COVID-19 infections; however, there has been no increase in cases in any part of the country,” he said.
Nevertheless, he requested that people continue with safety measures to maintain good health.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Northern Central Hospital told the Daily Mirror that there is only one COVID-19 patient under treatment at present.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, seven new COVID-19 positive cases were reported on Wednesday (26) bringing the total number of cases to 672,150.
