CEB to look into the possibility to reduce power cut duration

Unit 1 of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant which experienced a breakdown on August 15 would be reconnected to the national grid from next Monday, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.   

The Government Information Department said, quoting Media Spokesman of the CEB, that the engineers are engaged in repair work at present.  

Accordingly, 300 MW will be added to the main grid from Monday.  CEB media spokesman Andrew Nawamuni said it would be looked into whether the power cut duration could be restricted, after considering the capacity of reservoirs which generate hydro-power and fuel availability for thermal power plants.  Unit one of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant experienced a break down on August 15.
