  • The current political culture needs to be changed to develop the country

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said over the week end that people must make it a point to fill Parliament with National People’s Power (NPP) members while calling the November 14 general election as a “Shramadhana” to clean up Parliament.

The President said the current political culture needs to be changed to develop the country.   “Politics in our country is a business. Decisions will not be taken for the benefit of the country and its people as long as politics remains to be a business. We must first change the political culture in the country to develop it. ,” he said addressing a political rally in Kalutara on Sunday.

“The conduct of Parliamentarians’ has been very unpleasant. They were seen attacking with chili powder, brandishing knives, and causing disruptions in the Well of the House.  People wished to change that parliament. But, they did not enter parliament by force. People elected them. This time, people have a massive “Shramadhana” on November 14 to clean up Parliament,” he said.
