Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said numerous Covid-19 clusters were emerging in the country, but the cases could be traced back to their contacts.  

 Dr. Samaraweera told Daily Mirror the number of infections had increased because of the existence of many clusters. However, he said he could not view it as a sign of the disease spreading cutting across the country.   
The transmissibility of the new variant is higher than the previous one.
