The Government Nursing Officers’ Association has decided to launch an island-wide protest campaign on Thursday (08) against the decision of the Cabinet not to approve the proposal presented by the subject Minister containing their demands.

Its Chairman Saman Rathnapriya said the Cabinet had postponed considering the two Cabinet papers pertaining to promotions and staff status.

“Accordingly, we will be carrying out protest campaigns island-wide in order to show our displeasure over Cabinet’s decision to ignore considering our demands,” he stressed.

“The responsibility for the burden caused to the people should lie with the relevant authorities who failed to mete out their pledges,” he added.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took steps to provide immediate solutions to five out of seven demands made by the Public Services United Nurses Union on July 02.

This protest campaign is going to take place in such a situation where the Police have banned holding public gatherings and protests until further notice as per the instructions issued by the Director-General of Health Services.
