Highlighting his commitment to creating a respectable police service, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa announced yesterday that he would introduce a ‘One Rank One Pay’ system to address pay anomalies.
Speaking during a rally in Nikaweratiya, Mr. Premadasa said the temporary special allowance currently given to the police by the present government would be continued under a future SJB government.

“We will also look after those officers in the education sector as well as all public servants,” he pledged.
Presenting a range of pledges, he stated that a 50 kg bag of fertilizer would be provided at Rs 5,000. Additionally, fuel would be supplied to farmers, fisherfolk, three-wheelers, school vans, and Shakthi rice mill owners via QR codes.

“The current regime only favours a select few. Loans for large-scale businessmen have been written off, and they have been provided loans without collateral. There is no reason why loans for farmers cannot be written off if loans for large-scale businessmen can be,” Mr. Premadasa said. “Some say my manifesto cannot be implemented. However, we, who have managed to provide assistance to schools and hospitals, will demonstrate how we will implement it.”
