Opening skies to India for monitoring may pose security threat: Harin

  • Another Indian company is to collect biometric data of all locals under the Data Protection Bill

The latest Cabinet decisions where Sri Lankan skies are to be opened for Indian monitoring aircraft, the establishing of a Maritime Rescue Centre which is to be run by an Indian entity may push Sri Lanka into a regional conflict, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando alleged yesterday.

“Cabinet has given its approval allowing Indian monitoring aircraft into Sri Lankan skies, while an Indian company is to run a Maritime Rescue Centre which will be established at the Naval headquarters.

This company would be able to fly three drones and a floating dock on the Sri Lankan waters. Sri Lanka has been left to get exposed to a regional war by these agreements as India would get the opportunity to control Sri Lankan waters and skies while China controls the Port in Hambantota,” the MP said.

Also, he alleged that another Indian company is to be given the task of collecting biometric data of all Sri Lankans under the Data Protection Bill.
Coming up with details on another cabinet paper he said the Kelanitissa Thermal Power plant is to be given to New Fortress Energy of the USA.
