Operation ‘Yukthiya’ nets over 17,000 suspects in 12 days

In a sweeping 12-day operation ‘Yukthiya’, law enforcement agencies have apprehended a total of 17,837 suspects, making it one of the largest crackdowns in recent history, according to official police reports.


Among the detained individuals, 850 are currently undergoing further interrogation under detention orders.The operation yielded substantial results in the battle against narcotics, with 10kg of heroin, 06kg of ICE drug, 05 kgs and 288kg of cannabis, 2,110,500 cannabis plants, 118kg of Mawa, and 71,271 narcotic pills seized and taken into police custody.


The operation targeted individuals involved in illegal assets, leading to the investigation of 186 suspects, while 1,187 drug addicts were directed to rehabilitation centres.


Also, the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau jointly arrested 73 suspects out of 4,665 individuals listed as island re-convicted criminals. Besides, 1,375 suspects from the same list have been apprehended by these bureaus.
