Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe alleged that he had been called before the Presidential Commission probing mal practices of the previous government amidst the crisis which the country is facing.

Mr. Wickremesinghe told Parliament that he had been called to testify on a statement he made in the House. “No one can question an MP on what he or she speaks in Parliament as per the Privileges Act,” he said.
“My parliamentary privileges have been violated by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry which probes the acts of the previous government. “I have informed the commission that I will not come before it,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said.

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella who also made a similar remark questioned how the government expects the opposition MPs to support in resolving the present crisis when they are harassed by asking them to come and testify before the Presidential Commission.
