Police have revealed that there is an organised gang of criminals operating specially in the Western Province to extort money from drivers after staging road accidents.  

It was reported that people who fall into the traps of organised road accidents in the Western Province are intimidated by a gang of perpetrators who flee after extorting money from drivers involved in such accidents.  
This group is carrying out the racket endangering innocent people’s lives and extorting money in the respective areas, police said.  

Police said the perpetrators make sure that such incidents are not reported to the police.  

“We found out more about such gangs who extort money by intimidating the victims by creating a scenario that they were responsible for causing the accident,” police said.  

The police informed the public to inform the nearest police station or the responsible officers if such incidents are reported from any area.
