Sri Lanka remains engaged with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to nab the ‘fair number of organized’ criminals living there and bringing them here for legal action, a Minister said.

There are reports about Sri Lankan organized criminals living in the UAE, especially in cities like Dubai and operating criminal activities here through their accomplices.

Asked about the current status of engagements with the UAE through the diplomatic channel to trace them, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles told Daily Mirror the government is in constant touch with the UAE authorities to locate them.

Responding to a query about the exact number, he said there is a fair number of them living there, but he has no specific details.  During the first half of this year, 34 shooting incidents were reported in Sri Lanka killing 20 persons and injuring 13. Murders and drug trafficking are the common organized crimes being perpetrators by these criminals.
