Over 570 Kg of Kerala marijuana worth Rs.150 mn seized in Karainagar

Two suspects were nabbed with 571Kg of Kerala marijuana (ganja) smuggled from India, worth over Rs.150 million at Kovalam in Karainagar, Jaffna midnight Saturday.   

The Navy officers who were on a patrol at the Kovalam sea border had spotted a suspicious dinghy boat.  
As the sailors were approaching the dinghy, the individuals on board attempted to flee from the scene after dumping the packs with the contraband of marijuana into the sea.  


However, the sailors gave chase and apprehended the suspects. Later, the packs that were floating on the sea were picked up.  


Moreover, a contraband weighing 355Kg was set on fire and destroyed, while the rest was handed over to the Kayts Police.  The suspects aged 31 and 26 were residents of Kovalam,  Karainagar.
