The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has given approval to impose a seven and a half hour countrywide power cut for today (02).
Accordingly, a five-hour power cut between 8.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. will be imposed in the morning and a two-and-a-half hour power cut from 6.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. in the evening.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the decision was taken due to not having enough fuel such as diesel, naphtha, and furnace oil to run the generators.
“We are short of nearly 700 MW of electricity generation for today,” he said.
Ratnayake said it was an unfortunate situation to announce such a long power outage.
“The situation will worsen unless we get enough supplies. We urged the responsible authorities and political hierarchy to look into this immediately and make sure that enough supplies of fuel are supplied to the Ceylon Electricty Board (CEB) to run their generators,” the PUCSL Chairman said.
