Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who was sworn in as finance minister will lead talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), foreign media reported yesterday. Sri Lanka is seeking a bailout from the IMF as the nation is hit by a severe financial crisis.
“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as finance, economic stabilisation and national policies minister before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning,” a statement from the president’s office said. The PM told foreign media that he will present an interim budget in six weeks time, “ We have no rupee revenue and have to print another trillion rupees,” he added.
