PM visits President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence after unrest

  • Over 50 persons including journalists, were arrested in connection with the incident

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his eldest son Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa yesterday visited President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s private residence in Mirihana where a public protest was held the previous night.   

A tense situation erupted after police used teargas and water cannons to disperse the massive crowd who were protesting near the private residence of the President in Mirihana.   

 

Several vehicles were set on fire, while several people including security forces’ members, journalists and civilians were injured during the unrest.   Police arrested over 50 persons including journalists in connection with the incident.
