Claiming that the government is not expecting to repeal the Prevention of terrorism Act (PTA) right now, Cabinet Spokesman Vijitha Herath said yesterday the matter related to repealing the PTA would be taken up in Parliament once it is formed.
He told the Cabinet briefing that no discussions have taken place on repealing the PTA and that it will continue to operate in its current form.
The minister said that any amendments to the PTA should be approved in Parliament and added that there has been wide discussion on the need to repeal the PTA over the years.
“The government will take this up for discussion in the new Parliament,” he added.
