A father and mother suspected of neglecting their children and inflicting them cruelties were produced before Galle Addl.Magistrate Pavitra Sanjeewani Pathirana and remanded till January 11. 

The magistrate ordered police to hand over the two children, one four years old and the other two years , to the Kitulampitiya Children’s Home.  

The suspects are the father Hewa Mudalige Anura Shantha(42) and the mother Nagoda Gamage Ayesha Samanmali (24).  

Police told court that the suspect mother had gone missing from home on December 24 and had returned to her grandmother’s house three days later. They said after investigating her husband’s complaint, they were referred to the Children’s Rights Protection Branch at the Yakkalamulla Divisional Secretariat for further action. Police reported to court that the father had threatened to poison the two children and take poison himself and that a family dispute had resulted in the incident.   

Yakkalamulla police had conducted investigations and produced the suspect parents in court.
